You’re enjoying a nice meal and perhaps you bite into something soft and your permanent crown comes out! What do you do and why does this happen?
Odds are if you’ve ever had a crown, it just so happens that when it comes off it is when you’ve been enjoying something soft to eat like bread or something similar. This is common and it actually just so happens to be ironic that your crown comes off when eating something soft. However, your crown didn’t just happen to fall out because of eating something soft. Generally, there are a few different reasons as to why a crown may fall out, but soft foods are the exact cause.
Why crowns may fall out:
A crown can fall out for various reasons but typically occurs when something is either wrong with the natural tooth underneath the crown or something is wrong with the crown itself. Common reasons as to why a crown my come out unexpectedly can be a result of trauma, heavy grinding of the teeth (extreme wear and tear), faulty permanent cement, decay underneath the tooth, etc. Some of these reasons can be prevented, but some may just occur naturally.
What to do:
